“Do you know Bam, the Dog?” he replied. “The car goes by, and bam, the dog. Now go to sleep.”
This “joke” by Stephane Dion shows lack of compassion and understanding for the hundreds of families coping with the devastating loss of a beloved family pet and the often painful healing process that is required for the children and others involved.
I call for the Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, Mr. Stephane Dion to apologize immediately for his inappropriate comments regarding the unfortunate collisions between animals and vehicles and immediately step down as leader of the Liberal Party and as a Liberal Party candidate. Mr. Dion shows a complete lack of sensitivity towards the animal victims and families involved in these accidents. To make light of a situation where hundreds of families have lost loved ones is simply unconscionable.
The pain and suffering this causes families whose pet has been killed is profound. How do you explain to your small child that beloved Fido is not coming home any more? How can you make a joke about it?
These kinds of comments show a leader’s true colours, and Mr. Dion obviously doesn’t understand the pain and suffering caused by the countless incidents of collisions between the beloved family pet and cars. Hundreds of dogs are killed every year in collisions. It is also obvious that Mr. Dion cannot be trusted with animals, and his dog “Kyoto” must be rescued immediately.
This is the Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition insulting Canadians who have lost beloved family pets in tragedies. It shows an insensitivity that has become a hallmark of this opposition, and it starts at the top. Mr. Dion must take action and resign immediately.
