Green Party Platform Preview

The Green Party has started to roll out chunks of their platform today, it is, to say the least interesting.

Let's look at some "highlights".

Withdrawing from the North American free-trade agreement to negotiate a new trade deal that includes protection for human rights, jobs and resources.

Withdraw from NAFTA? You mean that treat we signed that has brought us billions and billions in revenue, and created thousands of jobs? No thanks. Is it perfect? No, but let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Imposing a $50-a-tonne carbon tax that would add 12 cents a litre to the price of gasoline.

Stop, hey, what's the sound, May's chances are going down. Horrible. Horrible. Horrible. This will nail a lot of people right where it hurts.

Using carbon tax revenues to fund poverty reduction measures and reduce income taxes.

This is code for take from middle class and up to give to poorer people.

Allowing Canadians to use income splitting when filing taxes, a measure that benefits couples when one person earns significantly more than the other.

Finally, something I like. Let's hear more! This surprises me, the left usually consider this sort of thing regressive, you know, keep women bare foot and pregnant. Of course real feminists understand that feminism isn't about working, its about choice, and the choice to work or stay at home.

Here is what Judy Wasylycia-Leis said about incoming splitting:
"It's a very costly proposal that very much benefits wealthier families...it's a huge bonus for high income earning families that have one person at home full time and one person in the workforce I think the interesting question here is, how will the Liberals respond to this negative regressive policy...a most regressive policy and contrary to the notion of full equality for women."

Creating programs aimed at restoring work-life balance, including a mandatory three-week vacation and reducing payroll taxes so that employers hire new employees rather than expect current staff to work overtime.

Whoa, pass the bong. Three weeks would be nice, what would employers thing? Let's see, in my industry, that could cost 5000 dollars in lost revenue per employee.

Decriminalizing marijuana.

Whoa, pass the bong again! I am for this, it is retarded to lock people up for simple possession then do mandatory releases for violent offenders, rapists, etc. Marijuana is no different the alcohol.

Restoring the GST to 6 per cent from its currently 5 per cent, and transferring that revenue to cities for environmental infrastructure projects such as public transit.

Stop, hey, what's the sound, May's chances are going down. You've got to be kidding. No way this will fly.

Ok, let's say, some courageous ideas, but really, they will not fly. Good luck raising public sentiment to raise the most hated tax of all times.

There are other crazy things on their website, but I won't get into them too much, except to show you this one, "Build a low-carbon tourism sector based on intermodal rail and bicycle touring. " *Sighs*

We're better off with Harper.
