May Day

While while while, that didn't last long. I wasn't really expecting this to happen without a lawsuit but as been reported everywhere Green Leader Elizabeth May is in the debates.

I have mixed feelings on including here in the debates, on one hand why not, she is a federal party leader, on the other hand, if you include her, why not include the other federal party leaders.

The Green Party is still a fringe party, without any elected seats in the House of Commons. True, they are slightly less fringe then some of the other fringe parties.

I still think she has a good chance of tanking her campaign by saying something really stupid and offensive during the debates, like comparing the CF to christian crusaders or Harper to Hitler.

The good news in this is that Stephen Harper can show he country what sort of person he is, what sort of leader he is and will be.

And it may work in his favour.

He will be attacked by four opponents, they will attack hard, they will call him a liar, and a denier, a George Bush lover and all the rest, it will be four versus one.

If Harper can maintain is cool, communicate his vision, and land the occasional verbal punch he could easily come out the clear winner. Often, pundits talk about sympathy for the incumbent if the other leaders bully too much, and how aggressive attacks from all sides against one leader in particular can have the opposite effect.

Either way, it will be an interesting test of his ability to lead and communicate; he will need to be clear, concise, and correct.

We're better off with Harper.

My prediction ... Elizabeth May will make the entire debate a shambles because like all "lefties" she will not be able to keep her mouth shut , and will be disrupting the entire debate with her mindless ranting.

I'll follow up Brian's prediction with one of my own...Elizabeth May will prove to be the greatest boon to the Tories of the entire campaign. She is a zealot and, like all zealots, she can't conceive of anyone holding an opposing viewpoint. As sure as ducks have webbed feet she'll get off on some tirade when she finds out that not all the participants are "true believers" in the cause. Since the Nutty professor has tied himself so closely to her, he will find that the backlash against her extreme views will catch him as well.
Of course, even if she advocates shutting down all transportation, electrical generation, and oil production, the CBC will praise her comments and declare her the clearcut winner in any debate.

May is a zealot, and she won't help her campaign with her on the debates.
