Manufacturing Scandal

Senior cabinet minister Peter MacKay approved a $16,800 hospitality bill for a group of civil servants in an apparent bending of government rules, a newly disclosed document shows.

Pardon moi?

This is not balanced reporting.

The $16,800 hospitality tab — large, even by Ottawa's standards — was to buy lunches for 400 Passport Canada employees who were working weekends to cope with a crush of passport applications last year.

$16,800 / 400 / 3 = $14. 14 dollars per person, per meal. This seems entirely reasonable to me.

It went to civil servants working on their weekends, not to some ministers or political staffers.

As an aside, when employees working for me work late or on weekends, I pay their meal expenses. And they can spend up to 20 dollars for their meal. 14 dollars with taxes seems entirely reasonable to me.

I figure this is the least we can do when they are giving up their family time.

Let's all be reasonable here.

Getting absolutely pathetic, eh?

At the time the department was working hellish hours in order to process all the paperwork. Feeding the crews lunches was probably the least they could do.

And what an ass Bob Rae is. If he's dream team material, then the Libs definitely are in deep unowhat.

I'm surprised story got hardly any coverage yesterday. Dion as Prime Minister while Canada is facing looming challenges on Arctic sovereignty would be an absolute disaster!

One wonders why this document came out right now, and by whom. Seems a bit engineered to me.

Nevertheless, it's the type of "scandal" that actually reflects well on the government, especially among civil servants.

When I work overtime my employer is pleased, the job will be done, it will be done on time, and as I do the math at a possible 20. per meal the staff were reasonable. I don't eat in restaurants that often, but a 14. average is really reasonable. I agree with Springer, Bob Rae is an ass, hey the people gave up their family time, job got done, what is the problem? The M S M is becoming more and more whiny all the time. I have a question for them "what are you going to do as you become more and more irelevant and people just go to the blogs for news"?? Chapping your lips on the "big Lieberano BUTT" won't mean much when they elect fewer M P's then the N D P.

The poor G&M !
Not only did they have to change their headline from $16,8000, they had to delete over 100 comments making fun of them for running such a non-story.
Suddenly, the comment count is at 52, and the "bash the Conservatives" commenters are front and centre.
Do they not understand that Canadians are not as stupid as they would like us to be?

Reading this story makes me sick. The Canadian Press are pathetic. Why are ALL their stories negative against the Conservatives? All I got out of this story is the Canadian Press trying to help out Izzy Mae(Dions Liberal Clone) in Nova Scotia against Peter McKay. SICK...SICK...SICK!

Indeed, I hope someone can clue me into why this is a scandal.

Anonymous sources say that there is a very embarrassing video coming out tomorrow. It involves a very high level Conservative and a sharp instrument.

Update!
It's confirmed, the video is of Stephen Harper himself running with the scissors in grade four art class!
Insiders speculate that this might be the reason for the recent arts cuts.
Often a childhood incident can manifest itself in later years, especially if the person is a puppy eating monster like Stephen Harper.
