A better Carbon Tax

This is a hard lesson to learn. The very thought of new tax revenue has a way of changing the priorities of the most hard-headed politicians — even Genghis Khan learned to be peaceful, the story goes, when he saw how much more rewarding it was to tax peasants than to kill them. But if we want lower emissions, the goal of a carbon tax is to prompt producers to change their behavior, not to allow them to continue polluting while handing over cash to the government.

Stephane Dion is using a carbon tax to fund his spending priorities. That is it, that is the bottom line.

Less then half of the expected revenues will be returned in income tax cuts, personally, my family will receive about 1000 dollars from this. I know my expenses will go up more then this.

The idea is flawed, costs will go up for everything, we still need to heat our homes, drive our cars, take buses, eat, buy furniture, get a toy for the kid, take the kid to soccer practice etc. Everything will go up in price.

Do the Liberals claim we will have more money in our pockets after this then before? If yes, or the same what is to stop us from just consuming more?

The Green Shift is a shaft.

We're better off with Harper.

Don't forget that your provincial taxes as well as your municipal property taxes will also increase because of Dion's carbon tax.

Everything will increase. Absolutely everything. There are simply too many to list.
