Democracy in Action?

Once again the Liberals have designated a candidate in a riding without a riding contest.

Mr. Pratt had said he was ready for a nomination fight, but there won't be one. Following an unusual interview session with the Liberal riding association executive, its members recommended Mr. Pratt, 53, as the candidate with the best chance of winning back a seat the party held for 16 years until losing it to Mr. Baird.

Well I guess if they couldn't get the (somewhat) popular Bob Chiarelli to try and unseat John Baird, better get the former Defence Minister David Pratt that lost to that university drop out.

Poilievre won the Conservative Nepean—Carleton nomination in 2004, at the age of 25, after provincial MPP John Baird turned down suggestions that he should seek the federal nomination in the riding that he then represented in the provincial legislature. In a closely watched race, Poilievre defeated Liberal cabinet minister David Pratt by almost 4000 votes, or about 5.5% of the total. The Liberals were reduced to a minority government in the election.

How come Senator Micheal Fortier has not resigned yet? HArper said he would step down and run in the next election.

Well?

Next election hasn't been called. Personally I don't care if he steps down to run, or steps down after the campaign.

It will be interesting to see if he actually resigns as a Senator if he doesn't win his riding and the Conservatives still form government.
