This latest poll shows that support for the Conservatives has grown since the beginning of the summer.
Well this is to be expected, it is the summer. Governments tend to rebound a bit during the slow dog days of summer.
A total of 2,505 people from across the country were surveyed for the poll. It is considered accurate to within plus or minus two percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
Wow, this is a good size poll, they tend to be around 1000 respondents.
When looking at the regions, the Conservatives have a firm lead in Ontario — 43 per cent of Ontarians would vote Conservative compared to 34 per cent Liberal.
Yay?! I don't know, this seems fishy and flies in the face of other polls.
As usual the Conservatives have the prairies locked up tight with a majority of respondents supporting them and a comfortable 7 point lead in B.C.
In Atlantic Canada, the Liberals have the lead (39 per cent Liberal, 33 Conservative).
I guess the Conservatives can chalk this up to the Williams effect. I wonder if it is true that Williams is bulling his provincial PC brothers with consequences if they support or campaign for the federal Conservatives? If this is true, it is not democratic, and possibly not legal, though I am not a lawyer.
Those responding to the poll said they believe the Conservatives are best able to deal with the economy, provide honest government, deal with crime and justice, represent the interests of people’s home provinces in Ottawa and deal with Afghanistan.
Interesting, I am not surprised that the Liberals are ahead for the Environment, but I am not sure it will be the central issue for the campaign, so no good news here. What is very interesting is:The NDP, along with the Greens, were also considered strong when it came to the environment — Liberals got 21 per cent of the vote, with the NDP, Greens and Conservatives tied with 20 per cent.
So the Liberals are ahead, but only by 1 point, this is within the margin of error. And this should also concern the NDP and the Green Party to see that their environment chops are rated on par with the Conservatives. (OH NOES THE HORROR)
And more bad news for the Liberals:
However, the NDP came in second when it came to choosing the party most capable of providing an honest government — 27 per cent of respondents chose the Conservatives as most capable, 19 per cent chose the NDP and 14 per cent chose the Liberals.
Yikes, and double yikes:
Even when undecided voters were asked to reveal whom they were inclined to vote for, the Conservatives still kept the lead: Conservatives (33 per cent), Liberals (24), NDP (16), Bloc (7), Green (6).
Damn this poll shows nothing but doom and gloom for Stephane Dion, wonder how long it will be until the Liberal party is on the news pledging to make the Parliament work?

I thought so too.
But maybe it's not too early for the media to do the 'scary Harper is headed for a majority...stop him now!' theme,
instead of waiting until the last couple of weeks, when they usually pour it on.
Dion needs all the help he can get.
Wilson indeed
This is good news but I don't know if it can result in a majority. In an election it will be the media against the CPC again. There must be a law against this is there? (real conservative)
I wonder if the CBC doesn't think that they better get onside as their jobs are on the line if the Conservatives get a majority!
Sometimes ones employment can focus a person/organization.
