8.8 billion in spending announcements?

The Canadian Federation of Taxpayers have a press release out talking about "Conservative Government’s Pre-Election Spending: $8.8-billion of your money, and counting".

The Opposition parties are trashing the Government over this, calling it pork barrel politics. There is just one problem with this, it's not accurate. Also, why go back to June? The election rhetoric did not get started till August anyway.

All the spending announcements are from programs outlined in the 2008 (or previous) budgets. Repeat after me.

This is not new spending.

This is not new spending.

This is not new spending.

That is the key difference between the Liberals and the Conservatives.

We're better off with Harper.
