As we get closer and closer to pulling the plug on this session of Parliament you can be darn sure we will all be inundated with polls.
This one is quite surprising IMHO. The poll is showing that Canadians are actually warming to the idea of an election. The results are also quite interesting:
Residents of Alberta and Atlantic Canada were the keenest on an election, with 47 per cent agreeing it was time to go to the polls. Forty-six per cent of the residents of Saskatchewan and Manitoba agreed with the statement, as did 42 per cent of Quebecers.
British Columbians were the least keen for an election at 33 per cent, followed by Ontarians at 36 per cent.
On party popularity, the survey said the Conservatives maintained their substantial lead in western Canada, and picked up support in Quebec, Ontario and Atlantic Canada since early July so they are now in a statistical dead heat with the Liberals in those three regions. In Quebec, the Bloc Quebecois had 34 per cent of the popular vote, well ahead of the Liberal and Conservative parties which were tied at 25 per cent.
We all know the Conservatives are very strong in the west, and judging from Conservatives I read, see, and talk to they are also more in interested in having an election. This poll seems to validate that. From what I have read, Atlantic Canada is also turning to the Conservatives as they will be hard hit with the Green Shift.
What may be a potential bright light for the Conservatives is that support for an election is weakest in Ontario. This could mean motivated Conservatives out hustling and out campaigning Liberals and NDPers who are not as interested in another election.
It seems that the Conservative base is much more motivated, and this is further evidenced by the blue machine's ability to out fund raise all the other federal parties by massive margins.
Of course this is yet another poll, so your mileage my vary.
