I a was shocked to hear about the wide spread vandalism going on in Guelph. Apparently the by-election in Guelph has gotten people all fired up. This is good, but NOT when it expressed with the destruction of private property and the cutting of brake lines.
I abhor this this display of criminality, the discourse of politics has no place for this. As if the destruction of campaign signs (of all parties) wasn't bad enough we now have this.
The cutting of break lines is a clear attempt at intimidating Liberal party supporters. That is unbelievably shocking!
I call on anyone with information on these crimes to call

WTF?
MP for Portage-Lisgar, Brian Pallister gave a speech to our community when I was in high school. A rash of campaign sign removals had begun and you could tell from his speech that Mr. Pallister was deeply committed to democracy. He was nearly guaranteed to win, but violence and vandalism was not how he wanted to go about it.
It amazes me that some people are politically motivated enough to vandalize campaigns and endanger lives, but seemingly don't understand why political discourse is better than intimidation.
...The cutting of break lines is a clear attempt at intimidating Liberal party supporters. That is unbelievably shocking!...
do you suppose it could be liberal supporters doing this or just the opposition parties ?
The people who had their break lines cut were people with Liberal party signs on their lawns.
It would be very Machiavellian for Liberal supporters to be doing this to their own supporters.
I don't want to cry havoc and let loose the allegations of partisan politics. I have no idea who has done this, and no proof either way.
I will leave the smears to others.
Consider this scenario: Liberals not confident about win in riding. Need NDP voters to come over. Send out party wack jobs to do hits and make it look like NDP supporters. NDP takes it up the ass in the media and Liberal wins riding. I am either a genius or the coffee is getting to me... (real conservative)
I'm sincerely hoping that you thinking of these kind of plans is an anomoly and not indicative of the conservative mindset in general. Otherwise, that you'd be willing to think another party would potentially risk their own supporters lives to reduce the chances of a different party makes me scared about the lengths "real conservatives" might be willing to go to get elected.
Real Conservative, I don't know about that.
I doubt it was NDP supporters doing this. I mean, why would the NDP not like C-68?
Until the perpetrators are caught and convicted I won't smear anybody with what would be unfounded allegations of criminal activity.
I'm the campaign manager for the Conservatives here in Guelph. The targeted sign damage has been brutal, with both us and the Liberals being the recipients. They've lately taken to using blowtorches on arterial and lawn signs, with at least one of our supporters being afraid to replace her torched sign.
Now I know why.
This is insane. We put out a press release yesterday with the other parties condemning it. It's certainly targeted, but by whom? I'm at a loss to figure it out based on the behaviour. THe only thing that makes sense to me is a group called GUTS - a self proclaimed "urban terrorist" group.
