The Globe and Mail has a short news wire story talking about Prime Minister Stephen Harper's musings about doing something to address the dysfunctional government.
I have only one thing to say, don't go back on your word. You gave your word to the Canadian people when you passed the fixed election dates. I may not always agree on policy, but I will always respect a politician who keeps his word, but I will never respect a politician who breaks his word for partisan gain.

Harper will do anything to win. His agenda is entirely focussed on electioneering and not on good governace. You've been had.
Coming from a leftist, anonymous..your words are meaningless.
Canadians have been 'had' for decades by the selfish, thieving left, whom you so obviously adore.
Haha whatever Anon. You can tell his constant electioneering by his correct but unpopular decisions to extend the mandate in Afghanastan, stop the tax leakage with Income Trusts and other decions in the same vein.
You may not always agree with Harper, but he doesn't flop around like a dying fish on every single decision that needs to be made. He doesn't change his mind on key platforms just because it is a novel new way to distribute wealth.
give it a rest anonymous...
I'm getting fed up with the media witch hunt and trying to "make rain" where there simply isn't any.
The Prime Minister indicated something we all know. The Liberals have made Parliment disfunctional. They refuse to deal with the business at hand the elected gov't puts before the house and instead focus on attempts to smear the rightfully elected gov't. Rather then actually address real issues or come out with an original thought the Liberals come out with a Tax Plan wrapped in enviromentally friendly package called "Green Shift"...a name already trade marked...but named appropriately....what it boils down to if you've ever actually read it is they plan to take averages Canadians hard urned "Green" and line their own nests with it again if they ever return to power.
This is what Harper's dealing with...Imagine you were constantly working in a call center taking complaint calls...never anything constructive brought forward. Something you dealt with over a year ago keeps coming up and someone you answered numerous times keeps asking you the same questions every day after day after day like a broken record... it would wear you down to makking comments like "somethings gotta give" or maybe "if things don't change soon we need to do something to make this more functional" I suspect I would. The last session of parliment was nothing more then spoiled little liberals complaining over and over again about non-issues in an attempt to create a story or smear that would stick to the Tory's...but average people are either wise to it already or simply don't care.
as for the whole "Harper will do anything to win. His agenda is entirely focussed on electioneering and not on good governace. You've been had." take a closer look at yourself and your party... people in glass houses shouldn't throw rocks.
Mr Ed
Mr. harper will not 'call' an election. He may however put the Opposition in a position to force one. There is a huge difference. This was the Globe and Mail remember.
Stephen Harper should just walk over to Rideau Hall and call an election, yea he gave us his word that he wants to govern until October 2009, but we can't go through another year like this! A paralyzed parliament is not good for the country and the conservative party. Just give Dion his desired election and get on with it!
Don't get fooled by the media's attempt to generate a story, you have to remember that this is their 23rd call for an election since Harper took power.
He passed a bill making it illegal for the Prime Minister to call an election, remember? Dion's been running around the country reminding everyone that is his sole power.
I mailed Mr. Dion two personalized golf balls this week, because after 2 years of idle threats he's never had the balls to call an election yet.
I suspect the Conservative Government could do more to make this parliament work better.
The should dial down the rhetoric, become as non-partisan as possible, work genuinely with the opposition parties to pass bills in support of their agenda. If they do this, the Liberals will look really bad bringing down the government.
Of course the Liberals don't want this, they are causing a lot of grief. The more dysfunctional the current session looks, the worse the Conservatives look. That is the Liberal plan.
anon..coward, despite your belief that it is the Conservatives who are partisan and puking rhetoric all the time..I'd suggest you actually observe your darling Liberals in action. The most recent farcical outbursts in the ethics committee hearings come from the Liberals and the NDP. When the conservatives try and defend themselves with their own witnesses..guess what? Not allowed! Liberals have 78 witnesses to use to smear Harper but ZERO witnesses for the Tories are allowed to attend. Every Question they ask is obstructed or disallowed. Why? Because the truth would come out in all it's glory and it wouldn't look good on the Liberals. The NDP have already been exposed despite their efforts to distract the viewers. I fail to understand how ANY HUMAN BEING with a brain could interpret the desperate BS coming from the Libs these days as an indication that Harper has a lot to be worried about here. Anyone who has actually followed question period or the committee meetings knows. If you only read headlines in the Globe and the Star then everything you say makes sense. Totally misguided ...but makes sense.
caz, please go re-read what I wrote.
Also, if you deny that the Conservative government hasn't been partisan you are a blind zealot.
What I said was, the Conservatives should go out of their way to look statesman like, be cooperative, non-partisan etc.
This will make the Liberal antics look worse and may draw the voters wrath if they topple the Conservative government.
Was I clear this time?
Caz
Before you use the ethics committee as an example of Liberal malfeasance, have you checked out the proceedings today?
Those escapades do more to prove to sensible folk that not only does the CPoC not want parliament to work, but they are prepared to embarrass themselves and Parliament along the way.
If children behaved like the tories on the committee, the witness list and in the audience they would be told to grow up and behave.
That disgusting display by our "leaders" has brought the CPoC into disrepute and probably will be shown over and over again to illustrate the Conservative's idea of responsibility.
