The Globe and Mail had an interesting article on Harper's election strategy. Basically to sum it up, while a majority is nice, the main game plan is to destroy the Liberal party.
It's an interesting strategy. The idea being to throw the Liberals into chaos. Make them fight legal battles, make them fight an election they can barely afford, if the Liberals don't win a minority they will go through yet another leadership review when many of the candidates still have debts from the last one to pay off.
I say brilliant strategy.
Remember, in 2004 Stephen Harper reduced the Liberal majority to a minority. In 2006 Stephen Harper rallied the troops and led them to a minority government. In 2008 (hopefully 2009) they will march onward to victory again. They have the momentum.

So it's not that Harper will destroy the LPC,
it's that the Liberals will self destruct,
and we can thank PMSH for it.
I was so Pi$$ed to see the globe and mail close the comments early, and block it from viewing, there were only 117 comments by the end of it all...............and I bet not one was favourable towards the libs.
It's hillarious reading all the Trudeau lemmings at liblogs rant, whine, challenge, etc...........they are dellusional right about now, wouldn't you be also? I mean, they hold to their liberal party religiously, and don't critique it. Almost like a some cult. lol.
Garth has been awfully quite eh?
Globe and Mail? Not quite. It's the same Canadian Press story that I read yesterday afternoon. It looks like Joan Bryden is going to trump the rest of the PPG two elections in a row, all without leaving her office in Ottawa.
Since Feb. 2006, Canada has slowly and steadily began to enter a new self reliance, a new confidence and maturity. Many more Canadians are now expressing pride in their country and feel good about being a Canadian citizen. Many are shedding off the collective inferiority complex vis a vis our American cousins planted by too many years of Liberal rule and a complicit main stream media and education system.
Yes, centralized power and control with a heavy taxation system primarily designed to make it’s citizens enslaved and dependant on it’s one party (By design) ruler is on it’s way out. The unity of the country as a whole depends on it.
The main reason being for all this is that Canada now has an alternative choice of leadership which has confidentally planted itself in the centre of the political spectrum where most Canadians feel at home. Subconciously, many (The silent majority) have Conservative aspirations but the term and meaning of “Conservative” or “right wing” has been so tarnished and systematically branded as bad by the left that slow incremental bits of right leaning policies and alternatives are being introduced. The Conservative brand is still healing from the stonings that unjustly occured without thorough and fair judgement by it’s blindsided by propaganda electorate.
All in all, true democracy offering alternative choices is back from a very long absence.
The coming election will be the final blow to the still corrupt from within, arrogant and self serving, not to mention toxic to democracy from one party rule by stealth, but tired, directionless and financially broke, Liberal Party. This should be a welcomed possibility as I am hoping that a prolongued time out of power will clean the Liberal brand so it’s supporters truly reclaim their brand of choice. It must return and become a grass roots organisation serving the people of the land, not itself and it’s special interest groups.

I truly feel that the Liberal Party has become quite similar to a corrosive, criminal organization; one bent on using/abusing power/tax dollars for its own advancement or enrichment - sounds just like any typical criminal organization. Harper (according to this assessment of his "election strategy") is simply approaching them as law enforcment approaches criminals. Curtail their illegal activities as much as possible - i.e. get them out of power - and cut off their funds - reduce corporate/union sponsorship - watch them turn on each other - one more loss and they will have a leadership war like none before - and, finally, self-destruct. From the ashes, perhaps a new, clean, party will emerge and once again Canada can have two strong parties - a prerequisite for any functioning democracy. Good luck Mr. Harper!
imran, sure, paste the questions in a comment and I will answer them.
The Conservatives can spend millions in the run up to the election and the Liberals cannot spend anything.
This election could cost the Liberals a lot of money, and if they don't win a minority, say hello to a new leadership convention!
