I am tired of the simplification in arguments about the HST. Seriously, let's get informed in this. This simplification, and the Ontario Progressive Conservatives (as well as the Federal NDP etc etc) intent to make this a populist revolt are simply uneducated. Stop playing on fear, uncertainty, and doubt and start educating, and having an informed debate.

The problem with the HST is that it looks a lot like the VAT in Britain and other such taxes in Europe. The VAT in England is 17% (actually 15% as it was temporarily lowered due to the economic woes). The leftist Brown government is crying to raise the VAT to 20%!! Think about it, they take roughly 50% of your income in taxes for the average guy/gal and now they are after the remained. The HST will be used the same way here by liberals as the VAT is used in England. (real conservative)
The Harper Sales Tax might be good for the economy, but to tax payers on fixed income it is not. In Ontario it means an increase in tax on electricity and heating oil to name but two items. If you feel like paying more of you money for governments to waste you can pay mine too.
Using a quote from the red star doesn't help your argument either.
Anon, it is supposed to be a VAT, instead of a retail tax.
Pissedoff, read the whole thing. A few things go up, most go down.
There are many quotes to support the HST, that is just one.
Such left leaning institutions such as the CD Howe institute also support the tax.
Refute my points if you can.
