I am against the proroguing of Parliament. There I said it. I wonder if a petition will start to get me removed from the Blogging Tories.
Proroguing Parliament is going to go down in the history books as another blunder, another tactical error. By proroguing parliament, the Conservatives have managed to provide legitimacy to the opposition's attacks over the Afghan detainee affair. Where polls used to show that most Canadians didn't care about the issue, new polls are showing that they think the Afghan detainee issue is why Harper prorogued. Bang! Instant credibility.
Polls are showing small but detectable slides in support, and that the Canadian public are buying into the opposition's line of attack. We all know why Harper prorogued, to re-jig the Senate, but that will be brushed aside over their attacks.
All this doesn't excuse the lefties pathetic lines of reasoning, and short term memory.
Last year the opposition was on the offensive to subvert the will of the people with their coalition. They claimed that a coalition was constitutionally valid and therefor the polls against the coalition didn't matter. Today they say Harper is subverting the will of Parliament, and to look at the polls. How soon they forgot.
Harper made a constitutionally legal move. Parliament has been prorogued over a hundred times in 143 years, proroguing is not without precedence. It is a legal move.
Get over it, and stop comparing him to a dictator. Vote down the government in March and go to the polls. Put your money where your mouth is, and no more gimmicks. Present an option.
And for the last time, no one voted for the coalition!

Boy are those Facebookies gonna be disappointed when Iffy does nothing about this come March, eh.
Will they turn on him for, once again, showing weak leadership?
Maybe the coalition will rear it's ugly head before the next election?
One can hope....
It was vitally important to install those 5 new Senators now, just incase, on the faint hope, that the Opps vote down the Budget.
It is absolutely revolting that the Libs and their media continue to accuse our military/govt of war crimes, during this time of heavy casualties,
any time actually.
For their sake, I am glad the Afghan committee was cooled off.
Proroge of parliament is what does it? How's about front page bullshit from the Red Star, The Globe, news coverage from CBC TV and the spin-offs from that.
It's bullshit, but a lie said often enough, becomes the truth.
I don't agree that it was an error. I think that shutting the opposition down during the Olympics is a good thing.
Dude, Heaven is set to become a place on Earth! We win!
No one will care by March 3rd. Be patient ... You need to have a bit more confidence in Harper.
He really does need to have a new somewhat cost-cutting budget and will be able to get his former legislation passed in the spring with the new senators. It will all work out. He wants and needs a vote to cut spending.
The coalition was probably planning some naughty and irrelevant actions (more boring detainee drivel) to the important running of Canada things for Jan 25th, so Harper took a calculated hit such that Canada will not look stupid on the world stage in Vancouver.
Iffy has nothing much to say, so he is a paper tiger. Jack wants to be the official opposition, so he will lay low until March.
Relax - there was nothing for the opposition to do in Ottawa anyway, as they all have game tickets!!! They would have shown up Jan 25th, put in a week or two and would have been gone to the games, anyway. Do you think that Layton and Iggy won't be in Van for the Opening on Feb 8th?? The dignitaries start showing up Jan 29th.
By Feb 15, it will be all be about the Games.
What do you think 7 question periods woulD accomplish?
Once the olympics start all this B/S will be forgotten. (real conservative)
Wilson, you didn't need to prorogue to appoint the 5 new senators. You needed to prorogue to re-jig the committees.
Proroguing parliament solves nothing about the Afghan detainee issue.
Patsplace, its true, a lie told often enough becomes the truth. And actions that can easily be construed as evidence to support that lie don't help.
Why would anyone make a move to have your removed?
We are free to make critical opinion against the current gov't.
Example, EAP is too big and too fast and money will be wasted. (Reality)
The Political game in Ottawa via H1N1 demostrates that the over-hyping by the media and opposition parties.
2009 has been a year of stunts and smears manufactured and pushed by the MSM and the opposition parties.
Be wary....I have a feeling that all this rage being promoted by the media and the FB group - coupled with the fact that Iggy and Jack are not even in Ottawa - and the Lizzie May was with Iggy in Europe - is building towards the Coalition rising and asking the GG for the right to Govern.
Rallies on the 23rd will be promoted as Canadians showing they want change - on the 25th - Iggy has told his MP's to report for work.
Something doesn't sit right with me!
The opposition have NO standing with the GG.
The Coalition Parties are unprepared financially, nomination etc.

LIBS are in legal difficulties (MSM) is downplaying the problems.( Shocking!)
4th Qtr Lib online end of Jan 2010.
*GST overpayment $ 1 million (more?)
*Defaulted leadership loans-debts $ 1 million (more?)
Elections Canada can't protect the liberals any longer.
Would you trust a politial party that won't pay back their debts?
Canadian Sense, some partisans are too partisan, and don't like dissenting opinion. There was some talk a year or two ago about removing someone from the blog rolls, I can't remember who it was, would need to check my past posts.
I agree, their is no way the opposition parties can get a coalition going now, its been over a year. Their would be an election.
Every group has their own rules. Political dissent is tolerated on both Lib blogs and Blogging Tories.
I think if the blogger becomes abusive and in violation of the terms agreement upon joining the group it is reasonable to remove them from the group.
It is a privilege not a right.
Clearly most of us support good honest government.
We may disagree on specific policy and we can agree to disagree.
Try that in countries that the angry left.
China blocks UN sanction against Iran Republican gaurd.
They are also shipping crowd control vehicles to disrupt protests.
Where is the outrage from the MSM?
How many Iranians will be killed because of a despotic regime in Iran?
Is their a Free Press in China?
Anyone who makes too much "noise" is jailed or worse.
Alberta Girl, you ignorant twit, Iggy gave a news conference from Ottawa at 11 am this morning. Get your facts straight.
Since many Canadians and Face Book people have now learned that prorogation is not a new phenomenon invented by Stephen Harper, but was actually used by the Liberals and Jean Chretien who shut parliament down for 80 days, for the express purpose to save his hide, and let Paul Martin have to deal with the Liberal Sponsorship scandal.
So Canadians and Face Book types now realize they have to make a decision. Do they want a Conservative government with the right to prorogue parliament, a legitimate tool of democracy, or do they want a Liberal government with, not only the right to prorogue parliament, but also the right to raid the government's bank accounts for millions of dollars of taxpayer's money, to distribute in brown paper bags to Liberals and their cronies, as they did in the sponsorship scandal? When Canadians consider the alternative to the Harper government, something tells me there won't be thousands of entries in Face Book, for many good reasons, asking for the Liberals to replace the Conservatives
