By now most of you have heard that Janine Krieber (Stephane Dion's partner/wife/whatever) had a good venting post up on her Facebook page today. It has since been
taken down, too bad.
The Globe and Mail have reproduced the posting here. Its also been translated to English for those of us amongst us whom don't speak both official languages. As a side not, can we please stop using the word rogue?
What I find most interesting is her last paragraph:
I am starting a serious reflection. I will not give my voice to a party that will end up in the trashcan of history. I am looking around me, and certain things are attractive. Like a dedicated party that doesn't challenge its leader at every hiccup in the polls. A party where the rule would be the principle of pleasure, and not assassination. A party where work ethic and competence would be respected and where smiles would be real.
Now what does that mean to you? I read it and immediately thought she (and perhaps Mr. Dion) would jump to the NDP. The other choice that jumped to mind was the Bloc, but I can't see a staunch federalist like Mr. Dion jumping to them. NDP could pick up another Quebec MP, and an high profile one with "green" credentials to boot.
What do you all think?
PS: I agree with her, the Liberal Party will end up in the trash heap of history, and you can plot the demise from the infighting that Paul Martin started. Jean Chretien was the last Liberal Party leader I could respect. You don't have to agree with someone to respect them.

Lizzy May's party gets a seat?
You know wilson, I thought of that too. But I would hope she is too smart to join Dizzy Lizzy's team. At least under its current leadership.
No comments on what she thinks of Connies?
If it is a jump it would have to be to the NDP. I have no doubt that over the last year Dion has taken a verbal beating behind closed doors from other Liberals. This would infuriate Krieber.
The results in the byelections would suggest some new strength for the NDP especially in Que. The NDP is the logical choice.
Would the NDP even want them (him) considering the federalist baggage he brings with him?
Based on what she said about the Conservatives I'd say that the NDP is her only choice.

Well, Dion promised Lizzy a cabinet seat,
and the Green Shift was lifted from the Greenie platform.
Plus Lizzy praised Dion,
and if I remember correctly, she did not praise Layton.
Dion's politics are NDP and he gladly supported a coalition with Jack which tells me, they must have bonded on some level to negotiate that disaster.
Lizzie May's party, is a definite consideration but he would be an embarrassing spectacle now, sitting as the lone greenie.
After this, Dion is done and I predict will need to make a move if he plans to remain in politics.
Next floor crosser, step right up. Door #1,2or3?
Cherniak_WTF who cares what she thinks of Conservatives. We know as a far left Liberal (soon to be NDP?) that she would not be supporative of personal responsibility, low taxes, and a free economy.
You are just trying to spin discussion away from the comments she made about your Liberals.
Anon@8:52, they NDP is a federalist party. I don't think "federalist baggage" would stop them.
I think that you are right. NDP looks likely - their numbers are up in Quebec and Madame Dion is clearly a knowledgeable, leftish socialist. Her husband has been totally stabbed and sidelined by Ignatieff and she is livid, as are many in the party, especially in Quebec, obviously!
There is little that she said that is dead wrong, except that she clearly misunderstands that a coalition would never have been accepted by western Canadians who FINALLY had their voices heard! That is her fatal misunderstanding of the ROC. I was totally ENRAGED by the post-election "take-over" proposal, and went to the anti-rallies. She also never blames Chrétien for his many roles in killing his own party. His war with Martin started the demise.
Dion would never win a Green seat, and neither will Liz, but as an NDP MP (who might even form the official opposition next time, unless Iggy gets his game going, Dion might be able to play a real role again as a critic). That would make Madame Dion happy, as her husband and the green lefties could talk again in public. I think that is what she wants. Dion's views on many issues are aligned with many of Layton's on the green file - TAX our resource industry into oblivion.
Oh, I so love it when the left is split!! This is great! Let's hope for this to be so forever. We have suffered for years trying to build a national conservative message (and teach our new Canadians that we support entrepreneurship and other shared values that neither the NDP nor the BLOC nor the Libranos do).
I am still angry that Mulroney did not chop inane spending and federal centralization in 1988 - he had the mandate to do those things, but failed to do so, as he was pandering to people like Madame Dion.
It is the right time for a conservative shift, as the world is learning that nanny states are GDP killers. We have a "baby bust" period. Our 30-40 year-olds are going to need some entrepreneurial breaks, and not national day care. Other people have to take care of themselves, not look to the state. Health care needs user fees, as IT IS NOT FREE.
The next push should be on revering families - serial marriages are costing a lot and Gen X and Y have to learn that you can work through problems, stay together and reap the rewards.
Well said L!
The NDP is a natural fit for Dion. Besides, the Bloc wouldn't want him for many reasons, not the least of which is his inept performance as Liberal leader.
Madame Kreiber's rant is a very good indication of the Liberal/Quebec view of the Rest of Canada, skewed by their own bias.
And, the Liberals are hardly "in the ash can of history". After they get through these difficult times, a new leader will lead them back to respectability, probably young Trudeau.
What always escapes the conservabots is the fact that a majority of Canadians don't vote Conservative. The LPC to the trash pile of history? Doubtful but if it does happen, the vote ain't going to Harper. You want an united left on your hands? Wish away the Liberal Party and you won't elect a conservative government in this country for a generation.
Dion carries plenty of 'federalist baggage' and none is greater than the Clarity Act for which he is, according to most reports, very unpopular in Quebec. The NDP will not want him on their team as they try to build a solid foundation within Quebec.

Conservabots? Wooo, original!
The majority of Canadians vote down the middle. The vast majority of Canadians vote CPC and LPC.
Many LPC voters will go to the mostly middle of the road Conservatives prior to them switching to the union dominated NDP.
